Look, Up In The Sky!

As promised, last week I ventured to the Top of the Rock! That's 30 Rock here in NYC. And the entire experience was so much better than climbing to the top of the Empire State Building. I've always been told that is true, but I needed to see it for myself.

The biggest difference is that you can see Central Park from Top of the Rock. And, it's gorgeous! I'll have to post that picture later. Or, maybe I'll post the picture of the Empire State Building that I took?

My only qualm with posting those pics is the amount of haze that was in the air that day. Very smoggy. Oh well. Just gives me another reason to go back.

It wasn't smoggy, however, when I pointed the camera Up! The sky was gorgeous and clear up there. Oh, and look what I found looking up into the sky, as well? An antenna of some sort. Very cool.

And my little Canon PowerShot absorbed the sun without any problems. And that, my friends, is pretty cool, too.

Today, I Saw A Butterfly

When I saw this little butterfly in Washington Square Park today, I had no doubt that my little orange camera would be able to capture it.

But there is something you must realize about this photo - it's zoomed in really close! With a 5.0 to 20.0 mm zoom ability, I was able to snap this butterfly without scaring it away.

And, I was able to capture amazing detail in the process. For instance, notice the tattered wings on the little guy. Poor thing has lived a pretty hard life.

And so has my camera. Admittedly, I have already dropped it a few times, knicking its pristine orange shell. But despite everything, it continues to work its PowerShot magic in the city of NYC and beyond!

A View From Central Park

While I was strolling through Central Park last week, I glanced towards the heavens and spotted this amazing building poking through.

I have no idea what building it is, but it appears to be very Grand. Probably not a building that would allow me and my little PowerShot to loiter its property, snapping photos... but that's okay. It's probably more amazing from afar anyway. At least, that's what I'll keep telling myself. :-)

Central Park is an amazing escape from the city, tho. You can ride your bike, take a carriage or rickshaw, or just walk it, like I did. You'll find softball games, canoes, festivals, concerts, and more!

It's like finding serenity in such a hellacious city. And I was able to capture one of its most magnificent shots with my little Canon PowerShot. And that, my friends, is GRAND!

I Spy With My Little Eye... Something Green

So we did stop by the Aquarium while we were in Mystic. And while we were there, we spotted the biggest friggin' froggy we have ever seen! He was just floating on top of the water, hidden among the leaves and lily pads.

He might not be too well hidden for our eyes, but to the many delicious-looking dragonflies that flitted by, I'm not so sure. They were dancing so close to his head, I was on pins and needles, ready for him to strike! Unfortunately, it never happened, but that may be for the best. Because this little froggy looks like he could stand to miss a meal or two. A froggy diet, so to speak.

Anyway, thanks to my wonderful Canon PowerShot, we also captured some great photos of the largest sea lion we've ever seen, and of an adorable penguin. But of all the animal pictures, this one turned out to be my favorite. So, I share it with you.

Thanks, Canon, for helping me to capture all that green in all its luscious beauty! Your pictures make me feel very hoppy. Get it? Hoppy? Okay, I'm tired...

A Weekend in Mystic

Charles and I spent a fabulous weekend in Mystic County, Connecticut over the 4th of July Weekend. But instead of surrounding ourselves with fireworks and beer, we decided to drive the back roads of the many towns, and take pictures. A photographic holiday, of sorts.

Along the route, I found this wild shot of corn that is outgrowing even the barn! We were driving by and I practically skid off the road when I spotted it. A picture was a must! So I grabbed my little orange Canon PowerShot and snapped this amazing photo.

Most people visit Mystic for the Seaport, a winery, a casino, or to have a slice of pizza. But not me! Okay, maybe the casino. But, I would prefer to snap photos of the everyday life. Thus, the cornfield.

Besides, imagine my surprise when I learned the movie, Mystic Pizza, wasn't even filmed there! It was inspired by the Mystic Pizza shop, but it was actually filmed somewhere further up New England. Nice. And imagine my even further surprise when the locals actually pointed me to a totally different pizza shop across the street - Pizzetta. Seriously, it was the best pizza I've ever eaten. Apparently the locals think so, too.

I wonder what they would think of my little orange Canon PowerShot? Who cares. I love it!

My Most Favorite Building - The Chrysler Building

For obvious reason, my favorite building in NYC is the Chrysler Building. It's shiny, pointy, and just overall pretty. And every time I pass it, I think of that line from Annie, when Miss Hannigan yells, "And I want them to shine like the top of the Chrysler Building!" Or, something like that.

Of course, back in the 80's, I had no idea what the Chrysler Building was, but now that I do, I can't get that blasted movie line out of my head! Lol. Regardless, it really is an amazing specimen, so I had to snap a shot of it with my little orange Canon PowerShot. And what an amazing photo, right? I was actually snapping the rooftop when this flag positioned itself perfectly in the frame. Of course, I had to snap it immediately!

But notice the clarity of this photo. I had to zoom in really close to get it, but my Canon didn't fail me. It grabbed the image with intense clarity and stillness. I've owned other cameras that have fallen to this very same challenge. But not my Canon PowerShot!

I also grabbed some other pretty great photos of the Chrysler Building yesterday, so maybe I'll share those with you, as well.

Well, I have another talk break coming up, one where I talk over the intro to Kris Allen's Live Like We're Dying, so I better get focused on that.
